How To Show Your Intentions... Without SCARING Them Off... ðŪâ There are NO 'excellent' Samaritans, so the best I can do is 'good'. I'll help out a stranger when I can. The other night, paranoia and perceptions conspired to blow up any 'good' intentions I had.  I eased up to that blacked-out vehicle to find a middle-aged woman behind the wheel. I motioned her via sign language â two fingers pointing at my eyes then at the road ahead â and by turning my lights on and off. She looked at me, bewildered. I lowered my window to speak with her and suggested she do the same. Well, the reaction I got was completely unexpected.  A half dozen blocks up ahead, that speeding 'stealth' car had caught the attention of flashing, red, white and blue lights. As I slowly passed to rubber-neck, I watched her gesticulate with animated enthusiasm as she tried to explain why she was a twit. And then it dawned on me. I tell my daughters, who are well into adulthood, to be wary of strangers; had that lady's parents once advised her likewise? I think a certain amount of mid-life skepticism is valid, but an equal helping of driver self-awareness is also essential. When I got home, while brushing my teeth, I looked into the mirror. Damn, maybe I do look scary. Now what the fuck am I supposed to do about THAT? I've had the same level of success in trying to signal to someone that they forgot to turn on their headlights. Makes me glad that I have full-time headlights on my car! Cuz it's not like I'm any more on top of things.

I Tried to convince a lady who left her purse on top of her car that I wasn't the Hillside Strangler once...Took a whole stop light before she would roll her window down so I could convey the message...

LOL ð Ok, did you know that those 'constant on' lights only turn on your front lights on a low beam, and your rear lights are off? ðĪ Puhleez, if a random person drives up to you â put on your lights. My car has an 'auto' setting where when there's light out, it has daytime running lights, and in low light the headlights and taillights come on. Headlights for dummies.  I know it works because my headlights magically get brighter when I pull into my garage.

I remember the Urban myth about flashing your car lights at a car driving with their lights off. They were supposedly gang members who would follow you and kill you.

Overall, I think people get an accurate sense of who I am from the 'get go'. I am not intimidating, I am friendly, articulate and easygoing. My friends have often said, they wish they were more like me because I can talk to anyone Much like what I state on my profile, 'who I am here, is the same as who you will encounter offline, out in the real world.'

You're NOT intimidating? If you're as articulate as you claim to be â that would scare the 'illiterates' away. And, just as well! ð ð I'm pretty much the same in the 'real world' as I am here.
